Review: MAC Lightful Deep Ultramoisture Creme

By eclecticsatire · June 20, 2010

I got this little tub of moisturiser about 1 year ago, and I've only started using it about 4 months ago. So far, I am LOVING IT! I'm pretty surprised that MAC has good skincare products! :P

This little tub contains 50ml or 1.7 US FL OZ of product and it is made in Japan. It is one of the best moisturiser I've ever used and it has worked wonders for my skin. Though it is called a 'creme', it is actually more like a gel-creme. It smells amazingly light and subtle. It absorbs almost immediately into my skin too, no greasy feeling.

I use this for my morning facial routine only, because I have a whitening cream for night-time. It leaves my skin smelling awesome and baby smooth. My other skincare products glides on and gets absorbed so much easily with it.

The interesting thing is, after I started using this product I noticed lesser breakouts on my face, even during that time of the month. I am not entirely sure if it is because of this moisturiser or maybe just the combination of my facial products.

The gripe I have with this product is the packaging. I don't like that I have to dip my fingers into the tub to get the product out. Would be much easier and also more sanitary, to sell it in a pump bottle of some sort or maybe even, provide a spatula with the product. Another problem with the packaging is the silver coating on the tub. It peels off around the opening and ends up on my face! So each time I've got to peel one or two tiny specks of silver coating off my face. =/

Despite the little cons with the packaging, I think I'll re-purchase this when I run out.

Thanks for reading! :)

Collective Lush Haul

By eclecticsatire · April 3, 2010

As the title suggests, this is a collective lush haul. I did not purchase all of the items at one go.

A few weeks ago, a friend from Perth came over to Sydney for a short getaway. We went shopping and I had to drop by my local Lush store. I was running out of my favourite You Snap The Whip Body Butter.

To be honest, I think most of Lush's bar soaps are pretty useless and extremely drying on my skin. This is just my personal opinion though. However, there are a few Lush items which I love a lot and have worked wonders on my skin thus far. You Snap The Whip Body Butter is one of them.

I definitely recommend Lush lovers to try the Body Butters. They help to exfoliate and at the same time, moisturise your skin with essential oils. You Snap The Whip contains Macadamia Nut Oil and Bergamot Oil. It leaves my skin feeling extremely smooth, moisturised and smelling like blackcurrents.

Since I have had such great results with You Snap The Whip Body Butter, I decided to get myself The Soft Touch Body Butter to try. It basically works the same as You Snap The Whip, just with a different scent and different essential oils in it. I have not tried it, but will definitely do a quick review of it once I have.

If you buy 2 body butters, Lush will give you a body butter tin for free. It retails for AUD$5.95 each in Australia. It is great for storing Lush soaps and help keep them away from moisture and dirt.

Another awesome product from Lush that I absolutely love, are their Massage Bars. Not all of them smell nice though.

Lush recently came out with a new massage bar called Strawberry Feels Forever. It is shaped in a huge pink strawberry but, it does not actually smell like strawberries. To be honest, I don't really know how to explain the scent. It does smell strongly of cocoa butter though.

I like using Lush's massage bars after showering. It works the same as body moisturisers, just that it contains a cart full of essential oils, cocoa butter and shea butter. I find that it takes my skin about an hour to fully "absorb" the product. It is definitely not for someone who dislike having that oiled up feeling all over their body.

Another massage bar that I got to try is the Heavenilly Massage Bar. It is also a new massage bar by Lush. It contains Jasmine & Vanilla Absolute, shea butter, cocoa butter and coconut oil. I think it smells more strongly of coconut oil and just a hint of vanilla scent. Have not tried it yet.

Simiar to the square tin, if you purchase 2 massage bars, you'll get this oval shaped tin for free. I use it to keep my massage bars and it prevents them from melting due to the heat. Retails for AUD$5.95 too.

I have to admit, I buy Lush's Shower Jellies purely for the novelty of it. I mean, have you tried showering with a jelly?

Just a few weeks ago, my local Lush store was having a promo on the Snow Showers Jelly, which is a holiday item. The promo was BUY 1 GET 2 Free. Yes, you read right. Buy 1 Snow Showers Jelly, you'll get 2 Snow Showers Jelly for FREE! Let me say, these babies don't cheap ya know! Well, Lush items don't come cheap actually. So, my friend and I decided to get these just to try & well, have fun with. LOL!

Sadly, Snow Showers Jelly is no longer available. It leaves your skin smelling like grapefruits! Though the scent doesn't last very long on your skin. One thing about shower jellies is, they don't lather a lot. Don't expect it to lather up with loads of bubbles and foam.

I have also previously tried The Joy of Jelly Shower Jelly and Whoosh Shower Jelly.

Lush's Shower Jellies are not anything WOW for my skin, unlike the body butters. But it definitely does not dry up my skin as much as the normal Lush soaps.

I recently ran out of my Loreal Pure Zone Exfoliating Gel Wash & was searching for a new product to try. I was at my local Lush Store yesterday, when the salesgirl recommended me this particular facial cleanser. It is the Fresh Farmacy Facial Cleanser & it is a cleansing facial BAR for troublesome skin.

It is made with soothing chamomile and calamine for senstive or difficult skin. The salesgirl said it can help soothe any redness and pimples. It also contains lavender oil, tea tree oil and rose absolute. It smells basically like lavender actually. Have not tried it yet but I can't wait to! :)

The Lush salesgirl was also very sweet to give me a sample of the Vanishing Cream Face Moisturiser. It is a moisturiser suitable for acne prone & oily skin. She also included a 10% off voucher for this moisturiser & it is valid for 2 months.

I love my local Lush store's service staff. They are always friendly & ready to help you out with anything. :)

And this concludes my collective Lush haul entry. If you love Lush, I definitely recommend you trying the products shown here. :)

What Lush products have you tried and absolutely love? Or, do you have may Lush lemmings? Please share your thoughts & opinions with me! :)

Mini Haul & Mini review of Revlon PhotoReady Foundation

By eclecticsatire · April 1, 2010

Just a few items that I picked up in the past couple of weeks.

Been using the Revlon PhotoReady Foundation the past few days. So far, my skin seems to be reacting well to it. The coverage is medium to full and it gives a nice dewy finish. Yes, there are shimmers in it but I personally don't find that to be a problem. I have oily combination skin, so my t-zone tends to get pretty oily by mid-day. Surprisingly, the foundation lasted pretty long & well on my oily skin. I definitely needed to blot my face by mid-day though. It hides my pores, redness, blemishes & dark eye circles pretty decently. Overall, I am pretty satisfied with this foundation for now.

Lastly, I got my hands on some Guerlain KissKiss Lipsticks. Myer is currently having their Mid-Season Sale & Guerlain had a shelf filled with Clearance items. The lipsticks were originally AUD$50 each, now they are AUD$35 (140 Beige Sans Fin) and AUD$23 (551 Sweet Beige). I also managed to get an extra AUD$10 off with my birthday voucher from Myer.

Has anyone tried Guerlain lipsticks before? What are your thoughts on them?

So, this just a short mini haul entry. I am flying back to Singapore for a week, this coming Sunday morning. You can definitely expect me to haul a wee bit more items at the airport. :)

Current Favourite: Model21 Lashes in No. 28

By eclecticsatire · February 23, 2010

If you've seen my fake eyelashes drawer, you'll know I mean business. I absolutely adore fake lashes, & I can't live without them.

In this post, I am going to show you one type of lashes that I love. :)

Model 21 lashes in No. 28

They are made in Vietnam apparently. They are not made of real hair, but synthetic fibers. They feel somewhat plastic and are pretty shiny. The band is a bit stiff and a bit hard to bend to the curvature of the eyes. However, I still love the dramatic effect they give. I can't seem to replicate such an effect with lashes made of real hair.

Here's how these lashes look on me.

Since they are so spikey & dramatic, they obviously don't look natural. So, if you are look for natural looking lashes, I won't recommend this particular design. Best to stick to those criss-cross ones.

A little Q&A:

Where can you buy these lashes?

I got them from eBay. You can search for Model 21 or Model 28 lashes. They come in a box of ten and usually retails for about S$2 or so, depending on where you purchase it from.

You can also purchase Model 21 lashes from Chamelon & from http://gravitygirl90.livejournal.com/. I have personally purchased from gravitygirl90 before, she hold sprees for certain designs of model 21 lashes.

Are they easy to apply?

I would say they are relatively easy. Because they are pretty stiff, they are easy to place on your lash-line, however they can be pretty hard to bend to the curvature of your eyes.

How long can these lashes last?

Because they are not made of real hair, these lashes tend to maintain their shape longer. Therefore, you can re-use them for as long as you want. But I would not suggest using them for more than 10 times. Bacteria will grow on fake lashes & might potentially harm your eyes. Remember to always clean the lashes after use & store it in a clean container.

So, do you wear fake lashes & if so, which brand(s) & design(s) are your favourite(s)? Please share with me! :)

Giveaway & Quick Review: Wo De Xin Ji/Xing Ji Mei Ren Mask: Osmosoft. 我的心橶面膜:草本抗痘面膜。

By eclecticsatire · January 17, 2010

NOTE: Effects/results may vary. Use with care! Read the ingredients list & do a test patch before use!

Let's kick start my mask review with a brand called My Scheming Beauty Masks or Wo De Xin Ji/Xing Ji Mei Ren Mask (我的心橶面膜) I know, such a weird name. LOL! :P

Anyway, be prepared! You are going to see my naked face. No makeup whatsoever! Dark eye rings & eye bags included. :P

Today, the mask that I will be reviewing is the Osmosoft mask (草本抗痘面膜).

It is suitable for:

 • acne-prone skin
 • has pore-shrinking properties
 • helps to clear imperfections
 • helps to prevent acne
 • and helps to control sebum secretion

The mask serum is in a semi-gel like form. It smells pretty pleasant at first. However, after application it smelled pretty weird.

Before mask application:
 • Redness of the skin, specifically the cheek area.

The amount of leftover serum in pack

During application, leave it on for 15-25 minutes.

Let's put the before & after pictures side by side for better comparison. :)

Before & After.
Cheeks appeared less red after application.

Pros of the mask:
 • After application, skin felt pretty soft and plumped up.
 • Didn't make my skin feel tight or uncomfortable.
 • Pores appeared to be smaller, however the pimple on my forehead remained pretty red.
 • Overall skin (other than the pimple) appeared significantly less red.
 • Effects of the mask lasted till the next morning, skin was significantly less oily too.
 • Quite a bit of serum left in the pack. I massaged some onto my face & neck & I still had some leftover!

The cons are:
 • The weird smell after application
 • And the slight sticky feeling right after application.
 • Size of sheet mask a tad too big & I have a pretty wide face already!

Where can you purchase it:
 • Online sprees/stores (Google is your best friend!)
 • eBay

Now it is time for a contest! :)
I have decided to give 2 lucky winners, the chance to try this mask themselves.

Quick Review: Darkness lashes VS Model 21 lashes

By eclecticsatire · January 15, 2010
This is an extremely overdue entry. Apologies to everyone! I actually forgot that I had to do a comparison between Darkness lashes and Model 21 lashes. :P
Model 21 lashes.
Made in Vietnam.
Comes in a box of 10.
Available on eBay & various other spree websites.

Darkness lashes.
Made in Korea.
Comes in a box of 1 pair or 2 pairs with 2 mini tubes of lash glue.
Available at Palz@FEP in Singapore.

I personally find Model 21 lashes to be cheaper and more comfortable. The lash band is thinner and more flexible. I prefer lashes with thinner and softer lash bands as it irritates my eyes less. There seems to be more designs available too. The cons about these Model 21 lashes are that they are not easy to get and the model numbers are not always consistent.

Darkness lashes on the other hand, are slightly more expensive and less comfortable to wear. I find the lash band a tad too thick and stiff. I suppose it would be great for beginners though. :) There are slightly lesser designs to choose from, but I personally love their spikey designs the most. :) FYI, the lash glue in the box are absolutely useless! I will advise ladies not to use it and just use your own lash glue. :)

Oh, & both are not made of real hair.

Thanks for reading!

DO NOT BUY FROM iheartredcherry.com! Fradulent company!!!

By eclecticsatire · October 31, 2009

Review, rant and complaint.

Ladies, please do not purchase items from iheartredcherry.com.

They are just out to cheat your money! I am not the only one to complain about their lousy business skills and customer service.

View this youtube video for more information.

I placed an order with them on the 6th of Sep and I only managed to receive half of my order ONE MONTH later! It has been more than 2 weeks since I first received half of my order. I emailed them recently asking where is the half, they said that my order was split into 2 packages and that both packages were sent out AT THE SAME TIME. Okay, if that is the case, why have I only received one package so far? I mean, if both were really sent out at the same time, shouldn't I receive both at roughly the same time too? It has been more than 2weeks since the 1st package, why on earth is the 2nd package taking a much longer time to arrive? It just doesn't make sense.

I have filed a dispute with Paypal, requesting for a refund from the seller. However, the seller, some vietnamese person, refused to give me a partial refund. He said that I am not eligible for a refund because I did not purchase insurance or signature confirmation for the order. Also, if I wanted to replace the missing items, he will be able to replace them for me at a discounted price. In other words, he wants me to PAY HIM FOR THE MISSING ITEMS! WTF?!?!

What kind of lousy customer service and business practice is that?! GAHHH! I am so sick and tired of such lousy assholes! They are just out to cheat their customers' money! They have absolutely no idea what customer service is! They ought to be thrown into jail for fraud!

Such "companies" are just out to take advantage and bully their customers. They believe that their customers have no knowledge of the law and therefore, are easy prey. I hope and pray that someone will sue them, just to FUCK THEM UP!

DO NOT BUY FROM iheartredcherry.com. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH TUAN NGUYEN! I hope this person and his/her family will ALL BURN IN HELL!

Mascaras Review!

By eclecticsatire · April 9, 2009

For some unknown reason, I felt like doing a review on my favoruite LashBlast Mascara again and a new mascara that I bought recently, Rimmel London's Sexy Curves.

Let me just say, this mascara is rubbish on my lashes. It clumped horribly and left globs all over my lashes! It gave me awful looking spider lashes and that is not a nice look. It didn't coat my lashes evenly and smoothly. I had to give my lashes at least 4-5 coats before it could coat all of my lashes. Mind you, I have sparse Asian lashes so that isn't a lot of lashes to coat. It is a volumnising mascara, doesn't lengthen at all. It did gave my lashes loads of volume however, that was after 5 coats and by that time my lashes looked clumpy and disgusting. One good thing though, it did maintain the curl on my lashes slightly.

Overall, RUBBISH! Waste of money. Gahhhh! :(

One of my HG for mascaras. Absolutely in love with this thing! One downside, it has an extremely fat wand that sometimes threatens to poke your eye out or leave mascara smeared on your eyelids.

It lengthens and volumnises my lashes perfectly. Holds the curls all day long. No clumps, no globs. You need only about 2-3 coats to get that fake lashes look. Does it smudge? Well, I used the waterproof formula and it did smudge lightly at the outer corner of my eyes. I suppose that is what happens when you have oily skin. =/

Overall, extremely impressed with it. I will definitely repurchase it again. Too bad CoverGirl is not available in Singapore. I guess you'll see me stock up on these before flying back there for good! :P

Bloom Nail Polishes

By eclecticsatire · April 6, 2009

I finally decided to paint my fingernails. I hardly/rarely ever paint my fingernails. I only ever paint my toenails, but now that summer is over, I won't be able to wear open toe shoes as much. Would be a waste to paint my toes. Also, I suck at painting my fingernails. No, seriously, I suck really bad at it...

Pardon the awful painting job. I am a complete noob.

Bloom is an Australian cosmetics company. I used to be able to find them at Priceline, here in Sydney. However, I think they have stopped bringing them in or something. I bought these nail polishes from the Bloom counter at Myer (Sydney City). I think you are able to find Bloom cosmetics at Topshop too. I am not sure if Topshop Singapore still carries them, it was more than 4 years ago when I purchased my 1st Bloom cosmetic item there. :P

The nail polishes are really creamy and pretty easy to apply. I only needed 2 coats max for it look like the colour in the bottle. These two are cream finishes, no shimmer, no glitter whatsoever. They also give a nice shiny finish, without the help of any topcoat (see pics).

Kate, was supposedly a close dupe to China Glaze's For Audrey. However, I think it is more of a light baby blue. For Audrey has a tint of green in it and Kate has none.

Bettina II is a medium dark purple, however in the pictures it appears a bit like a light purple.

Both nail polishes dried really fast, which is surprising since they are pretty thick and creamy. They did not streak when applying and there were no globs or clumps either.

Overall, I am really impressed with these two nail polishes by Bloom. I do think they are a tad bit pricey though. It is AUD$29.95 for 2. Each nail polish is 12ml/0.4fl.oz. Honestly, I could get China Glaze or OPI nail polishes cheaper than that and they are 14 or 15ml bottles.

Review: MAC Nail Lacquer in Seasonal Peach

By eclecticsatire · March 30, 2009

So I got bored while trying to do my readings, and decided to play around with MAC's Nail Lacquer in Seasonal Peach.

Let me just start off by asking, HOW MANY DAMN COATS DOES THIS DAMN NAIL LACQUER NEED?! It took me four coats to get it to look okay. Pffft!

I read on some beauty blogs that a lot of the girls, found the creamy nail lacquers from MAC to be hard to apply and streaky. I totally agree. Honestly, sometimes you just do not have the time and patience to do 4 coats on your damn nails! =/

I'll give this nail lacquer a 2 out of 5 rating.

Sorry about the ugly cuticles and stuff. Been a while since I had a manicure. =P
